Why is it important and how is it different?
No matter where you are in your pregnancy or postpartum (PP) journey, childbirth education could be the perfect addition to supplement your growing body of resources. Outcomes for pregnant people improve when they are equipped with the knowledge and power to advocate for themselves to have their desired birth experience. Your pelvic health professional and childbirth educator will guide you and your partner / partners / support person through this process while also identifying musculoskeletal issues that may come with pregnancy and the postpartum phase.
Childbirth Education is available both via in office sessions and also via telehealth from the comfort of your own home.

What to Expect
- Education on what changes your body goes through during pregnancy and how to know what is and isn’t normal, including:
- Hormone fluctuations
- Oral health
- Nutrition expectations
- Warning signs
- Specifics on what to expect during the stages of labor and the delivery process
- Instruction on creating your birth plan and how to advocate for yourself to achieve the birth experience you desire
- Identify questions to ask your healthcare team
- Access to various resources within the community that can support you throughout your pregnancy and postpartum journey, including:
- Lactation consultants and resources
- Massage therapists
- Nutrition resources, recipes, and specialists
- Support groups
- Knowledge of different birthing locations in the Atlanta area
- Movement screen to identify whether you may be a good candidate for pelvic health physical therapy.
- Support from the pelvic health therapist perspective, including strategies to improve functional mobility and reduce risk of pain and dysfunction throughout this phase

Birth Planning
During this session, you will learn how to identify exactly what your birth preferences are. Your educator will not determine them for you, but simply be a guide to help you determine what’s best for you. You will be provided various resources that allow you to make these decisions and receive an e-workbook to complete that will have all your preferences listed once determined.
Birth Preparation
These sessions will give you information on exactly what you can expect during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. We will discuss how to prepare for the birthing event, provide education on how to push appropriately, and help you determine comfort measures that will help manage pain during labor and delivery.
Postpartum Recovery
In these sessions you will receive education on what to expect and how to prepare for the immediate postpartum phase including education on nutrition, bowel health, and psychological concerns. You will also receive education on how to return to exercise safely.
Lactation Education
During this session, you will receive education on the benefits of chestfeeding, tips to support exclusive chestfeeding, and positioning tips. Most importantly, you will be provided with resources on how to attain further lactation support if necessary.
Doula E-Book
You will be given access to an e-book that contains the most important components of your educational sessions including tips, an exercise guide (Postpartum Recovery), and all associated resources gathered by your childbirth educator.
Pelvic PT Screening
This screen will be performed in order to identify any existing pelvic floor dysfunction and assess whether you may benefit from pelvic floor physical therapy. The screen will include a pelvic floor assessment, breathing assessment, abdominal assessment, and succinct movement screen.
Postpartum Yoga
You will get 4 individual weekly yoga sessions that progress in difficulty aligning with where you are in your postpartum recovery. Sessions will be about 45-min in length with time for Q&A. You will also receive a video library containing each yoga session to utilize at home.
