You’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer and pelvic physical therapy has been recommended. While it may seem odd to complete therapy before surgery, there is strong evidence for why it can be helpful. Here are three compelling reasons to give “prehab” a go:
- Muscle memory – Muscles train so much faster before they go through surgery. Once you learn the appropriate exercises, skills and techniques pre-surgery, it will be that much easier for the muscles to find that same pattern post-op – helping you on your way to faster recovery.
- Knowledge is power – Being fully informed of what to expect, what structures are involved with prostatectomy and how those structures interact with the musculoskeletal system sets you up for the best return to function.
- Find the complications – Prostatectomy is a local surgery, but pulls and pressures from the surrounding area can affect how that area heals. PT helps you identify and address any areas that could complicate the recovery process, before it can become an issue post-op!

If you’ve already had surgery, it’s not too late to start rehab! Recovery may take a little longer, but you can still expect to see improvements in continence and sexual health using the tools gained from our Prostability Program.

60 minute In-person or Telehealth Assessment with your PT
At your initial session we will help you find your pelvic floor muscles and direct you on how to correctly perform pelvic floor specific exercises. We will also identify and address any areas that could complicate the recovery process. An extra bonus when you come before surgery is the ability to train muscles pre-operatively which will help make them stronger and ready for faster recovery.
60 minute In-person or Telehealth Post-Op Check in with your PT
This is a chance to ask questions about recovery, review your current symptoms and exercises. Your PT will review items from the pre-op visit and tailor your recovery plan to fit your current circumstances.
Recorded Long-Form Exercise Sessions
These sessions are recorded and can be found on our private YouTube channel. They include circuits, reviews of technique with exercises from our video library and additional exercises. They are recorded by both Megan and Laura.
E-Book
You will receive a comprehensive E-book with information regarding your surgery, how to prepare for it and how to support an optimal recovery. Information includes musculoskeletal concerns, anatomy, common symptoms post-op with tools to reduce them, and insights on sexual health.
Video Exercise Library
