A Pelvic PT’s Role in Navigating Endometriosis and Chronic Pelvic Pain

Did you know that March is Endometriosis Awareness Month? With this blog, we want to shine a light on a condition that affects millions of people and many of our clients.

What is Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that 1 in 10 individuals with uteruses will be diagnosed with. Some common symptoms include a combination of one or more of these:  chronic inflammation, pelvic/abdominal/back pain, extremely painful menstrual cycles, tightened muscles and postural disruption.

Endo can show in other ways too. We commonly see bowel symptoms (such as constipation), urinary symptoms (such as urgency) and sexual health concerns (such as pain with insertion) that coincide with an endometriosis diagnosis.

Over time, these symptoms can alter how your pelvic floor muscles function by impacting muscle length and muscle tone. In turn, this can create discomfort and limit the body’s ability to move and function.

What are some known treatments for Endometriosis ?

For some folks, surgical options may be part of managing their endometriosis. There are two types of surgical procedures for endo management – Ablation & Excision. While surgery can reduce pain and improve quality of life, it is not a cure, and rehabilitation is crucial. That’s where we come in!

How does Pelvic PT help someone living with Endo ?

At KPP, we understand that living with endo is about more than just managing pain. Our approach focuses on targeting the root of your pain, helping you restore mobility, release tension and reconnect with your body.

We will work with you to:

  • Address muscle tightness and imbalances caused by chronic inflammation
  • Improve posture and core stability to reduce strain on your pelvis, hips and back muscles
  • Create individualized movement plans that fit your lifestyle and comfort level
  • Provide education and self-care tools to help you manage symptom flare-ups
  • Help with your pre/post-op recovery – to restore mobility, reduce scar tissue and support you with returning to the activities you love

To Summarize –

Every body reacts differently to endometriosis, which is why personalized care is key. Our team is here to listen, support and guide you through the challenges of chronic endometrial pain, so you can feel strong, confident and in control.

Please know that you don’t have to navigate endometriosis alone. This month, and every month, we’re here to support you on your journey to relief and resilience.
